Description

Oils to include in your diet

We don’t usually mention oil when we talk of healthy foods. But the fact is, it’s an essential part of our diet and does more than help us fry food. It provides essential nutrients and is recommended in small quantities.

The edible oil and ghee you eat should be monounsaturated (MUFA) or polyunsaturated (PUFA). Depending on the type, oil can be derived from fish, nuts and vegetables. The common choices here in India are mustard oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, groundnut oil, canola oil and olive oil. Among these, olive oil of the extra virgin is considered one of the healthiest. All the oils here vary in fat content and nutrition. Oil and ghee are both calorie-rich and must be consumed only in small amounts. Each tablespoon can contain around 120 calories so they should be limited to not more than 6 teaspoons a day (for an individual who eats about 2,000 calories every day).
